Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office - (Investment) Hon. Geoffrey I. Mwambe and the Executive Director of Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) Dr. Maduhu I. Kazi have participated in the Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) Africa Forum held in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. The conference was chaired by Hon. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt from 11 to 14 June, 2021. 


The forum was organized by The General Authority for Investment and Free zones (GAFI) in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and COMESA Regional Investment Agency. 


The Forum brought together African IPAs and various stakeholders to examine the economic and investment impact of COVID-19 and the measures that are needed to mitigate and recover from the aftermath. In particular, the Forum focused on how African IPAs can deal with consequences and increase their focus on intra-regional investment as a way to accelerate economic growth and competitiveness. The theme for this year was Integration for Growth.


Hon. Minister Mwambe, has participated in a panel discussion at the IPAs Africa Forum where he spoke on Africa (Pursuit for a Bigger Role in Global Market). At the forum, only two African countries, including Tanzania, have received an invitation from Ministers responsible for investment to participate as special guests at the forum.


However, Hon. Mwambe and Dr. Kazi have held other meetings with various investors who have invested in Tanzania and who have expressed interest in investing in the country due to conducive policies and the investment climate in the country. At the meetings, Hon. Mwambe was able to meet with the President and CEO of El Sewedy Electric Company, Eng. Ahmed El-Sewedy who invested in Tanzania and his company continues to operate in Tanzania are also in the process of further expanding their investment in the country especially in the industrial area and special industrial areas.


At the same time Dr. Kazi the Executive Director of TIC held a meeting with Mr. Hani Cassis, who is the Chief Executive of Mintra Industries, the company has invested in the production, distribution and production (supermarkets), office equipment, schools and home, the company is interested in Tanzania's growth and opportunities existing investment and the company has a policy of employment preferences for women.


However, Dr. Kazi held a meeting with Ms. Sylvia Emeel Senior Business Development Manager of Orascom Construction Company. Ms. Sylvia Emeel has also been handed documents showing how to invest in the country and various investment opportunities.
